Located in northwest Ethiopia, the Amhara region is mostly mountainous, with Lake Tana at its center, and the regional capital Bahir Dar on the southern shore of the lake. In Bahir Dar the economically disadvantaged sections of the community, like women and children, are extremely vulnerable to social crisis, in particular the impact of HIV/AIDS. The remote rural areas of the region are characterized by poor infrastructure development and widespread poverty with very low access to and quality of basic services, such as health and education.
The projecrt is now concluded.
